HEY Bloggers Christmas Party

For the past 5 months together with the other HEY blogger founders I have been helping to plan a Christmas event. We wanted to arrange something near Christmas to get us all feeling festive and include lots of local brands and promote them around this time of year. We had a nice evening at Violets house planning the event and then collectively we got to work, we secured an area at the newly opened Lexington bar which is part of the Double Tree Hilton, we started planning the logistics, speaking with local businesses and inviting lots of bloggers and creatives!

We manged to secure some amazing brands that where either included in a goodie bag for each attendee or as a raffle prize. For this event we choose the local charity Oscars Chance, Oscar is a little boy who has four limb cerebral palsy - Oscar needs an operation in America that will ease his daily pain and make life more comfortable. All proceeds from the raffle have been donated to this worthy cause.

We had initially had 50 bloggers book to attend which was amazing however on the day this sadly was not the case. I can not stress enough the amount of work that goes in to planning and running these events. There are 6 of us planning this one, we all work full time and blog as our side hustle so we dont have lots of spare time however, as we enjoy it we collectively worked together to put on this fantastic event so it is very disheartening when people dont turn up without warning. It is very difficult to secure the venue and the brands that are involved so when we spoke about having 50 bloggers planning to attend that works in our favor! Not only is embarrassing for us when having to explain why there has not been coverage for that brand it is also detrimental to our relationships with them. I am not saying this to have a moan I just want to make people aware that its really unfair to say that you will attend something then just not turn up. I work in events full time so i find this frustrating at work too!

Aside from the annoyance on the day we did have a fab event - the bloggers & creatives that did turn up where amazing! Everyone was super friendly and willing to get stuck in and network. I tend to always stick with the people I know so I tried to make an effort to chat to each person! We started off with a fun ice breaker game from socialise and mingle this made everyone get to know each other a little better and I think it made people feel more comfortable which I suppose was the aim of the game! I would love to play this again in the future! We had some gold foil H-E-Y balloons courtesy of Hobby Craft Hull which made for a photo opp which everyone took advantage of.

There was a list of things for each attendee to do including tweeting which item you would like to win in the raffle, following someone new of social media etc which was also super fun! Some of the amazing raffle prizes included vouchers from Luxe by Hugh Rice, Joanie Clothing and The Deep, Christmas jumpers from Rock on Ruby and even a keg of cider from Koperberg to name a few, so there was something for everyone!

We where supplied some delicious treats from Like Sugar bakery which went down a treat and everyone enjoyed a cocktail or two from the bar at the Lexington. The venue was great for what we needed and I hope everyone had a fantastic time! Huge thanks to all the brands involved and to my fellow organisors who all did an incredible job!

  1. This looks like such a lovely event - it is a shame that people didn't show up even though they confirmed (its only them that missed out anyway)
