Just Chill! Relaxing Things to Do on Your Downtime During a Holiday | Travel*

Whether you only put aside a couple of hours in the morning or evening to relax and do nothing or have an entire “lazy day” in the midst of paradise, simply letting your hair down and chilling out around the hotel can be a great way of recharging your batteries for the next adventure.

Here are a few fun things you can do on your downtime during a holiday, whether you’re staying at the Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, or a campsite in the Lake District.

Play board and card games
If you’re travelling with other people — even if it’s just with one other person — playing some board and card games can be a brilliant way of unwinding, sharing some laughs, and having some good clean fun, without having to budge from your hotel room.

The options are just about limitless here. If you want something quick and exciting, you can play a few rounds of Blackjack — and even bet a little bit of local money to make things more interesting. On the other hand, there’s a world of quirky games to try such as Exploding Kittens (relax, it’s just a card game) which can be completed in 20 minutes.

If you’re feeling more like a long, drawn-out competition, you could set aside a few hours for a game of Monopoly of Catan. Or you could even just get out some paper and pens and compete in a game of general knowledge.

Either way, a game is a great way of sharing some laughs and letting your competitive side out during your downtime.

Read a good book (in the sun!)
Most of us don’t really read as much as we should. It’s kind of just a rule of life that during the regular 9-5 routine we get sidetracked and find ourselves neglecting that new novel, autobiography, or true crime thriller you picked up months ago.

A rest-day (or afternoon) during a vacation is a great time to catch up on some reading, especially if you’ve got a sunny balcony, pool, or beach to recline on as you page through.

As long as you actually enjoy the book you’re reading, you may be surprised by relaxing and fun this can be. And if you get tired of sitting around in the sun, your next martini is just minutes away. I read so much when I am away on holiday as I find it is such a great way to relax and shut off from the outside world!

Try keeping a travel journal or blog
Even if you’re not a natural writer, keeping a travel journal or blog can be a great way of reflecting on your holiday so far, getting some perspective on things, deciding what you want to do next, and stretching your creative muscles.

Not only can journaling be a very therapeutic thing to do, but it can also provide a great record for you to look back on fondly, or if you’re blogging, it can give your friends and family a great opening to share in your adventures. I wrote every day while I was away travelling for three months I love that I can look back and remeber all the fun things I did for years to come!
